I smile every.single.time. I think about this Mini Session. My sweet client told me that her family really needed an updated portrait and that the kids “HATE to smile for photos.” As we all know, I’m completely fine with clients not faux-cheesing it up – natural is best! I will never tell you (or your children) to smile…yadda yadda yadda, you’ve heard it all before! I also happen to be pretty darn good at making kiddos laugh – not trying to toot my own horn or anything. :) The difference here is, these kiddos are pre-teens and teenagers -we all know this can be the age when smiling can be considered uncool. *pfffft* I told my client to tell the kids that it would be painless. I promise.
As soon as the session began, I sent the grownups on a little walk and did a few poses with the tweens/teens. See these happy, smiling faces below? …were these the same kids that didn’t like to smile?!? Needless to say we all had a good laugh! Most importantly, I was ecstatic to be able to provide exactly what they were hoping for. The adults love their family images and the kids thought I was goofy enough to laugh at. Hey, whatever makes them happy. :) Win win!
Aren’t they gorgeous?
This session was a special Holiday Mini (20-30 minutes) so photos tend to be more posed – guaranteeing those special images for cards and gifts. Unlike my typical lifestyle type sessions, there isn’t extra time to wander or to play. Even though the Mini is much shorter, I do my best to make the session fun and try to keep the kids active and included! During this session the kids LOVED being able to help with posing. They actually chose the poses for both of their group shots, and one for the entire family. :)
