What to Wear for Spring & Summer Sessions – Philadelphia, Abington, Montgomery County, PA Photographer

Need suggestions for your Spring/Summer Session wardrobe?

Look no further!

.

Be You!

I know, I know, that doesn’t sound very helpful. Your clothing choice depends on what you’re envisioning for your session. If you want relaxed photos, come in your favorite casual outfit. A little more formal? Maybe a new dress in a great color – then coordinating the other outfits around that. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something you love wearing!

Color Coordination

I typically recommend choosing two colors and having them incorporated throughout different items of clothing or accessories. The goal is for your family’s wardrobe to flow without being too matchy-matchy. Think about colors that would pop against the Spring and Summer background. The days of dressing in matching white (or black) shirts and khakis are over, my friends!

More Tips and Ideas…

• Match your eye color. You’d be surprised how much this can do for your eyes! However, I wouldn’t recommend for your blue-eyed bunch to show up wearing head-to-toe blue. Moderation and coordination are key. Also, don’t forget how accessories can play a huge role with a pop of color!

• Think about where in your house you want to hang your photos. You can match the colors of your outfits to your decor so that your photos will coordinate with that particular living space.

• I’m a big fan of using gray in items of clothing – it always looks so great against Spring/Summer colored foliage in the background. This also allows for your clothing colors to pop, instead of trying to match the background.

• Reds (pinks included) can be the most powerful color in images. If you wear red or red accessories, your eyes may be drawn to those items instead of faces and expressions. That’s not to say that wearing red is a big no-no – but I only recommend using it as a small pop of color, instead of an entire outfit or dress.

• Neon and very bright colors are never a good idea – they do not photograph well.

• Clothing with big logos, words and characters are not recommended.

• When in doubt, neutral colors and earth tones are always great.

Spring & Summer Sessions – Philadelphia, Abington, Montgomery County, PA Photographer

2015 Spring/Summer Sessions with Kel Murphy Photography are full sessions (not minis) with packages that you’ll love! You will receive beautiful images that capture real moments of your children and family – no time limits or stiff, posed photos.

Your Spring/Summer Session will be laid back, fun, and perhaps, even a bit relaxing. :) Your children will be dancing, singing, laughing, running and well, just being kids—but captured in a way that uniquely and beautifully reflects your family! Think of this like a play-date — the results are beautiful, real portraits that you will treasure for many, many years.

All sessions are on-location and use natural light, which I believe to be the most flattering. I have a great local spot for Sessions – a perfect outdoor setting that is secluded enough to give our session a private feel.

Expect to have fun! There are no rules or expectations for you or your children. I prefer to capture them as they are – doing what makes them happy. “Sit still and smile” will never be said by me. I prefer to document real/fun/casual/intimate moments and showcase what makes your family special.

KMP’s Spring/Summer Sessions are never scheduled back-to-back, in fact, only a few are booked per month. Scheduling a select amount of sessions ensures that I am able to give your children and family 110%. This is a boutique-type of experience that everyone deserves to have.

Toys For Tots – Every year I work with a charity during the Holidays, and this year is no different. Toys for Tots is an amazing organization that provides children-in-need with new (unwrapped) toys. It might seem like just another toy to you, but for these children, it’s a message of hope. Please help me support the Toys For Tots Foundation by purchasing a new (unwrapped) toy and bring it to your session. Not only will you be doing an AMAZING thing for this charity, but you will receive a $35 print credit to use towards your purchase (includes Holiday Packages.)

Toy donation suggestions: Please consider donating a toy for an older boy/girl (12+ years of age) as well as toys for ages 18 months up. The best donations are sporting goods, toy cars/planes/boats, dolls (Barbie, G. I. Joe, etc.), board games, books, bicycles, scooters, puzzles, models, hand-held video games and small electronics. Please consider when selecting a toy, keep in mind it may be the only one a child will receive.

What to Wear Guide – Fall Sessions – Philadelphia, Abington, Montgomery County PA Child and Family Photographer

After booking a session, you might wonder “what should we wear?!”

My answer is simple – be YOU! I know, I know, that’s not helpful, but the truth is that your clothing choice depends on what you’re envisioning for your photos. If you want relaxed photos, come in your favorite casual outfit. A little more formal? Maybe a new dress in a great color – then coordinating the other outfits around that. I typically recommend choosing two colors and having them incorporated throughout different items of clothing or accessories. You want everything to flow without being too matchy-matchy. THAT is the goal. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something you love wearing!

Here are a few ideas –

•  Match your eye color. You’d be surprised how much this can do for your eyes! However, I wouldn’t recommend for your blue-eyed bunch to show up wearing head-to-toe blue. Moderation and coordination are key. Also, don’t forget how accessories can play a huge role with a pop of color!

•  Think about where in your house you want to hang your photos. You can match the colors of your outfits to your decor so that your photos will coordinate with that particular living space.

•  I’m a big fan of using dark blue or gray in the fall – it always looks so great against autumn colored foliage in the background. This also allows for your clothing colors to pop, instead of trying to match the background. You do NOT need to dress your family in just reds and browns for this season. Want to see an example? Check out this gorgeous family!

•  Reds (pinks included) can be the most powerful color in images. If you wear red or red accessories, your eyes may be drawn to those things instead of faces and expressions. That’s not to say that wearing red is a big no-no – just something to think about, especially with large accessories.

•  When in doubt, neutral colors and earth tones always photograph well.

•  Black is a very flattering color. It hides a lot!

Still unsure on what to wear? Ask me! Heck, you can send me photos of your options – I’d be glad to help you out!
