Watching a Family Grow – Philadelphia, PA Adoption Photographer – Red Thread Sessions

The adoption of two-and-a-half-year-old Charlotte was finalized in February. Mom, Dad, and big brother Nathan traveled to China to bring this gorgeous girl home. Four-year-old Nathan was also adopted from China in 2010 – and boy, is he a handsome guy!

I had the privilege of photographing this beautiful family a few weeks after Charlotte was united with them and this session was such a joy! It was wonderful to see family bonds already formed and strengthening, making it hard to believe that Charlotte just joined them. We laughed, explored, had a race, maybe even a little “sword” fighting, and, of course, ended with a snack. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to capture these moments for them.

Congratulations again, it was an absolute pleasure being a part of your Red Thread Session!

The Gold Hope Project – Philadelphia, PA – Child and Family Photographer

There are a few (very special) organizations that I am a proud chosen photographer/member of — this is the most rewarding way of giving back for me.

The Gold Hope Project is one of them…

After seeing a photog friend’s wonderful photo shoot with a family for the Gold Hope Project, I knew I needed to be a part of this group. They are still a fairly new organization and can use volunteers and donations to help these amazing children and their families. There are many ways you can get involved, even just by helping to spread the word!

If you have a child battling cancer please contact them (or me!) and take advantage of what the Golf Hope Project has to offer. Please take a moment to read their mission – if you have any questions please feel free to ask me. Don’t forget to check out their website and become a fan on Facebook.

More precious than the gold that represents them, children are our future. This year alone, approximately 13,500 parents will have to listen to a doctor tell them, “Your child has cancer.”
Can you imagine?

There are twelve major types of childhood cancers. From there, they are broken down into three groups.

  • Leukemias (cancer of the blood)
  • Lymphomas (cancer of the immune system)
  • Solid tumors (cancer in bones, organs, or tissue)

While the survival rate has increased over the past 40 years from 10% to nearly 80%, the number of children diagnosed increases slightly each year. And, while there have been many medical advances in the field of cancer research, treatment of pediatric cancer is still very aggressive and can have many lasting side effects. Some pediatric brain tumors, such as brain stem gliomas and pontine gliomas, are terminal upon diagnosis and no new protocols have been developed in 30 years. Despite the astonishing number of children being treated each year (approximately 40,000), funding for the research and implementation of better treatment remains largely underfunded.

You are not alone. The Gold Hope Project is a group of photographers that have come together to capture the moments that your family holds so dear to their heart. Some of us have been touched by the presence of cancer, and some have not, but we have all been given a gift that we would like to share with you, completely free of charge.
